  • Trainee - Core

    8 August 2018

    As part of the Investment2020 Scheme, we are looking for a Trainee (for one year) to work alongside our team of programmers who are responsible for designing and building an environment in which the Quantitative Analysts can design and build trading algorithms.

    The Role


    You will have your own independent projects to work on and by contributing code of your own assist the team with code reviews.  You should be able to program in Python or C++.  You may have contributed to open source projects and you probably program for fun at home.  You may be a “hacker”.

    Our programming and infrastructure are at the heart of what we do.   As a trainee you will be fully immersed in this environment, giving you great experience in both tech and finance worlds.

    • We use SQLAlchemy to access our SQL databases from Python: knowledge of SQLAlchemy and SQL is valuable, in particular Postgres

    Trainee Programme Overview


    The Investment2020 Trainee programme is aimed at both school/college leavers as well as graduates. The purpose is to enable individuals with limited or no exposure to financial services to start their careers in the investment management industry and gain the skills and experience required to progress their careers within the industry.

    This Investment2020 Trainee Scheme will be for a fixed term of 12 months.   All Trainees will be part of the wider Investment2020 community with the opportunity to build relationships with other trainees on the scheme through both social and professional events.  Trainees will receive extensive ‘on the job’ training by being assigned to a specific department for the duration of the 12 month contract.   As well as Investment2020 centrally organised learning and development opportunities and additional training organised by our in-house Education & Development Department, Trainees will be given the opportunity to study for an industry recognised professional qualification.

  • Trainee - Legal, Compliance, Risk

    As part of the Investment2020 Scheme, we are looking for a Trainee (for one year) to work within our Legal, Compliance and Risk team. You must be educated to A Level standard or equivalent and have an interest in pursuing a career in law or compliance. You will receive thorough on the job training, whilst also receiving support to undertake a Legal/Compliance related qualification.

    The Role


    Under the supervision of qualified solicitors, you will assist the legal function on the legal, regulatory and commercial issues affecting the business.  In addition you will also be able to get involved with aspects of the compliance function and risk functions of the business.

    Some examples of projects you may be involved in are:

    • Contribute to ongoing projects, such as MiFID 2;
    • Undertake research (i.e. to find information on new and existing regulations, legal cases and articles);
    • Undertake monitoring reviews in accordance with the Compliance Monitoring Plan
    • Test and review the controls in place to ensure that the business is acting in accordance with procedures and regulatory obligations
    As a trainee you will be fully immersed in this environment, giving you great experience in both the legal and finance worlds.

  • Data Analyst

    A systematic hedge fund relies critically on data for back-testing and live systems, and this data needs to be clean, organised and extensive. You will be responsible for managing terabytes of it, from high frequency prices and order books to economic announcements, corporate filings, and weather.

    The Role


    You will be responsible for curating, exploring and visualising terabytes of data: high-frequency prices, news feeds, weather and other exciting innovative alternative data sources.

    You will explore new sources of data and analyse them using visualisation tools and machine learning techniques.

    You should have some experience of programming and some experience of databases would be helpful.  You should also possess considerable attention to detail, meticulousness, and a desire to organise, categorise and understand large data sets.  You will join our growing data team, which is responsible for a mission critical part of our research and development.

  • Quantitative Analyst - Entry Level

    We are interested in talking to mathematicians, statisticians, computer scientists, economists and other quantitative graduates and post-graduates who want to join our team as an entry-level quantitative analyst.

    The Role

    • You will need to be super-smart, numerate, computer literate, hardworking and self-starting
    • You will initially help the team to develop and implement algorithms which predict price changes across a variety of markets as well as constructing portfolios based on quantitative signals, and as you gain experience develop and implement these yourself
    • A research degree in a quantitative subject would be advantageous, ideally at masters or PhD level
    • A background in time series analysis, statistics, economics, digital signal processing, reinforced learning algorithms, portfolio theory or applied mathematics will be an important feature of your CV
    • Programming will be an integral part of your job and you should have experience of at least one of Python, C++, C, C#, php, Perl, or Matlab

  • Data Visualisation & Interface Designer

    The ideal candidate will have experience of web-based user interface technologies and application development, as well as in data visualisation. The candidate is also likely to be a bit of a “hacker” and be excited about the opportunity to use augmented reality, VR headsets, touch screen interfaces, motion sensing interfaces, high performance graphics cards and GPU-powered supercomputers.

    In the course of our normal business, we produce gigabytes of complex and structured data.  This can be anything from high frequency and rapidly changing, to geographical, or multidimensional.  Visualising and understanding this data is critical to our business.

    Some knowledge of statistics will be a benefit and while proficiency in web frameworks, Javascript, CSS, and Python are going to be important, the successful candidate will also have a strong sense of design.  The visualisation systems we will be producing will be beautiful as well as functional.  We will expect candidates to be able to show examples of work they have done in the past during interviews.
