World Land Speed Record Attempt: Bloodhound SSC3 August 2015
Cantab is very proud to be sponsoring ‘The Bloodhound Project’, a plan to smash the world land speed record and at the same time inspire the next generation of Scientists and Engineers.Conceived and constructed in the UK, Bloodhound SSC is a supersonic car, designed to break the 1,000mph barrier and set a new world land speed record.
The Bloodhound team are developing a large hybrid rocket motor, designed to be powerful, efficient and safe. Apart from the difficulty of achieving the performance, the mathematical, scientific, technical and engineering challenges are many and varied. Ensuring that the structure is strong and rigid enough to deal with 20 tons of drag, and ensuring that the wheels hold together while spinning more at more than 10000 rpm are just two examples of many. The team will make extensive use of computer modelling and expertise across science to overcome such hurdles and are also committed to sharing their passion for science through their extensive education program that forms an integral part of the project.
Cantab is delighted to be supporting this project, and looks forward to watching the Bloodhound story unfold.

The First and Third Trinity College Boat Club5 November 2012
Cantab is proud to be sponsoring First and Third Trinity Boat Club, the boat club of Trinity College, Cambridge. The club officially formed in 1946, but has been in existence since around 1825.Rowing is a very popular sport at Cambridge University – well over 1500 students compete for their colleges every year. Trinity College's boat club is the biggest and one of the most successful clubs on the river. Each year up to a hundred new students learn to row from scratch, many of whom go on to represent the college, and in some cases the University. About 10% of the college are active members of the boat club at any one time, and around 90% of Trinity undergraduates try rowing at some point in their college career.
Both the women’s and men’s squads occupy extremely high positions in the ‘Bumps’ – the traditional Cambridge University races on the River Cam – and the last couple of years have seen record numbers of wins in all types of boats and over all distances on the Cam. Cantab is delighted to be supporting First and Third, and looks forward to cheering the crews to victory from the banks of the Cam!
